It was during his two weeks work experience in London's Hatton Garden at the age of fifteen with one of the best diamond setters in London, Matthew David fell in love with precious stones, precious metals and supreme craftsmanship. After the work experience he returned to Hatton Garden every school holiday to work unpaid until he left school.

At the age of seventeen Matthew David started working in Hatton Garden and spent six months at a jewellery repair company followed by eighteen months at a mass production company which at the time supplied the majority of the high street jewellery shops.

At the age of nineteen he was offered a five year handmade jewellery apprenticeship with one of Hatton Gardens top jewellery workshops, which has made bespoke pieces for football players, movie actors, and musicians such as Liam Gallagher.

During his apprenticeship he also attended and completed a jewellery design course at Holts Academy, and due to his good relationship with his boss, he was allowed to use the workshop after hours to meet his own customers and hand-make bespoke jewellery items for them.

After eight years of working with this company and exhausting himself with his ever so fast increasing private clientele, he decided to take time out of work and head to India alone. For the next year he travelled all over India, Nepal and then onto Peru where he spent six weeks with the Shamans in the Amazon Rainforest. Even after these life changing experiences he still had a deep passion to create beautiful jewellery.

Returning to London, he was overwhelmed to discover that his loyal customers whom he had made engagement rings for had waited for his return to make there wedding rings, eternity rings and diamond earring and pendant sets for the big day. Although Matthew David had a few trade customers after returning from his travels which includes jeweller to the stars Shaun Leane. He was only able to continue there work for five-six weeks due to the increasing demands of his private clientele.

For the last five years of being self employed Matthew David has worked purely through recommendations. It was only at the beginning of May 2014 that the Matthew David website has gone live.

Although at this current time the website shows mostly beautifully handcrafted traditional platinum and diamond jewellery, Matthew David is currently creating collections based on his time spent in India, Nepal and the Amazon Rainforest.

Also offered by Matthew David is a bespoke service where you are invited to have a personal meeting with him to discuss design ideas and your requirements and then have a piece of jewellery made that reflects your own unique style.
